Mouse control is the most basic skill needed for excelling at CSGO. Mouse control is simply put the ability to move the mouse quickly and accurately where you want it to go, and clicking the mouse buttons appropriately.

Mouse control can be practiced efficiently in aim trainers. It is however important to remember that this is only one aspect of what we call mechanics or a part of aiming. It is therefore recommended to not commit too much time in the beginning practicing only this aspect, and it may be beneficial for new players to focus their practice to in game training, for the potential to practice multiple mechanical aspects in one practice session. For more experienced players, practicing in an aim trainer together with practice in game should be considered as each aspect can be practiced more effectively by dividing into different mechanical skills.

Novice

At the novice level we want to combine mousecontrol practice with other aspects of aim training. We use the CSGO workshop maps Fast Aim/Reflex Training and Aim Botz – Training.

Tracking practice

For tracking practice, launch the map Fast Aim/Reflex Training, try to track the bots and one-tap them. We want to be extremely accurate, only tapping when we are fairly certain that we will hit.

Flicking and microcorrections

When practicing our flicks, we run Aim Botz – Training and shoot as many bots by one-taps as we can. Again, barely missing and increasing the speed as we get more comfortable.

For microcorrections practice, we again use Aim Botz – Training. We move with only A and D keys, and stop with the crosshair just a little bit off target. In one smooth motion we correct to the bots head and click.

Intermediate

Practicing mouse control in aim trainers

To practice mouse control effectively, aim trainers can be used. As Aimlab is free, and have a good custom workshop, we use Aimlab for this training (Feel free to use other aimtrainers with similar playlists).

There are many good playlists made specifically for tactical FPS as well as lists to improve general mouse control. As an intermediate player, it is recommended to use a basic playlist for CSGO or Valorant to get started. These generally practice the most prevalent parts of mousecontrol in the game, so they are a good starting point. However, dont be afraid to try multiple different scenarios and playlists if you find it interesting or if it motivates you. A good place to start is bardOZ Valorant routine in Aimlab. To run this, open Aimlab – Custom – Playlists – bardOZ VALORANT.

Advanced

At the advanced level of mousecontrol, we want to start measuring our progress, and improve in areas that are lagging behind our strengths. It is recommended to check out Voltaic or Revosect aim communities. There is a plethora of resources and information about how to effectively improve. The best way to get started is to visit Voltaics Discord – go to the resources panel – Benchmarks Guide. Follow the guide, start practicing the benchmarks and start climbing those ranks.
