Learning what to look for
If you dont know what to look for, we recommend reading up on the topics we have listed under Mechanics, Knowledge and Tactics and Strategy. Start by reading the novice parts for each section.
VOD reviewing ourself
We mainly want to VOD review our own demos, to find the most glaring issues that need some work.
Goal
The end goal of the review is to get some actionable points that we take with us in our practice session. Write down some notes, both mechanical issues, such as noting that our spray past 5 bullets need some work, and more specific ideas such as potential good angles or specific pieces of utility that we should learn.
The broader issues may need consistent work for weeks, while the specific issues should be implemented and learned as soon as possible.
VOD reviewing a professional
Reviewing a professional player can be very beneficial. Here we look for things they do differently than us, and look for good ways to play different spots, noting common utility and micro tactics. It is important not to tunnel vision on the new cool utility trick, if you have not yet learned the basic utility. While it may be cool to use a trick for a round, it is usually more beneficial to learn the basics first, that help your team every round.
Software
No software is needed, as you can review recorded demos in CSGO. For MM your latest matches are saved in game, while you can load your demos for most third party clients by downloading the demo from their site, and loading it in CSGO by writing ‘demoui’ in the console. For professional replays, either find the demo in hltv.org archives or find a POV on YouTube.
