Virtual crossfires in simple terms are using true crossfire angles as a solo player. True crossfire angles are spots where the enemy walk into multiple angles at the exact same time. The enemy have no way of looking at the different angles simultaneously and have to use utility to clear the spots or gamble where you are positioned. This tactic is extremely important for defensive positioning, as it gives the defender such an advantage.
Some examples for Inferno. These spots are everywhere, and if you work out where people often look when entrying into a site, you can find them yourself.
